Adhyayan Suman is impressing audiences worldwide with his portrayal of Nawab Zorawar Ali Khan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. The actor – who debuted in Bollywood with the 2008 film Haal-e-dil, is the only living son of actor Shekhar Sumar. During an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Adhyayan got candid about many things and spoke at length about his 15-year-long career.

While also shedding light on the ups and downs he has faced over the years, Suman Jr also opened up about fame & success, friends in the fraternity, politics in the industry and Bollywood preferring popular actors over talented stars in their films. Scroll below to know all he shared.

Adhyayan Suman on politics in Bollywood

Talking about the politics in the industry, the ‘Heeramandi’ actor said, “I’ve been through major politics. Everyone’s been through politics in their lives. Saying something, doing something (else) behind your back. It happens in every industry, toh main apne industry ko badnaam kyu karu? That’s how the cookie crumbles. The world is not going to allow you to come up, it’s not that easy. But you got to be at it.”

He continued, “You got to look at the prime examples of Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan – you’ve got to look at all these actors – film family, non-film family, whatever… I don’t categorise actors like that. I feel like everybody has their own journey, but the fact that they’ve held on and they have also had this downfall but come up again, it’s on talent.”

Talking about the current harsh reality of Bollywood, Adhyayan Suman continued, “I feel like the unfortunate part of our industry is that a lot of it has become popularity over talent. And in that, we are losing a lot of good talent. I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about all the other talents who are not getting the right opportunity. It’s very unfortunate. Jiske pass 25 million followers hai, uske pass 10 films hai aur jiske pass immense talent hai aur shayad 100K followers bhi nahi hai, uske pass kaam nahi hai”

On fame & success

Talking about success and fame, he said, “If you ask me what success means to me, I think I’m the most successful person on the planet right now. I fought the darkest times of my life, I feel like I never gave up I feel like I believe in myself, I feel like I had faith. I think I was surrounded by the best people in my life – my parent and a few friends.”

Adhyayan on not having fraternity friends

Revealing why he doesn’t have friends in the industry, Adhyayan said, “I don’t think it is easy to make friends here. Until and unless you were born into a film family and you’ve grown up with them (you’ll be friends). Aisa mere saath nahi hua. There are some good people, there are some bad people… I think that happens everywhere. I feel in most of it (friendships) in our industry, you are treated like a commodity. You’re business.”

He continued, “If you do well on a Friday, you’re my best friend. If you’re not doing well, ‘kon ho tum’? Pehle mujhe bahut bura lagta tha yeh soch kar, but ab bura nahi lagta. I’ve accepted the reality of how the industry functions… every industry. If you’re successful, you are surrounded by everybody. If you’re not successful, there are 2-3 people who will hold your hand. I’m fortunate enough to have those 3-4 people.”
